Whether you've just had your lips or eyebrows enhanced with permanent makeup, congratulations on your newfound beauty! To ensure that your investment lasts and looks its best, proper aftercare is crucial. In this comprehensive guide, we'll walk you through the essential steps for taking care of your permanent lip and eyebrow makeup, ensuring a stunning and long-lasting result.
To get the best results follow these Pre-Care instructions before your appointment:
Stop any use of Retin-A at least 14 days before treatment (Accutane one year)
No waxing, tweezing, tinting or picking 1-2 weeks before
Avoid blood thinners unless medically necessary 48-72 hours before
Avoid alcohol 48 hours before
No caffeine day of appointment
Avoid booking during menstrual period, it can increase the pain
You MUST reschedule with 72 hours before if you have any ingrown hair, sunburn, pimple, or eczema, or psoriasis irritations on brow area
Deposit will be forfeited and appointment cancelled if you arrive with any of these irritations
Appointment will canceled and deposit lost if you arrive with cold, flu, or viral/bacterial infection
The First 30 Days
Immediately after the procedure, your skin will need time to heal. Expect some redness, swelling, and possibly mild discomfort. Follow these steps during the initial healing phase:
Avoid All of These Activities 10 Days Post Treatment:
Excessive Sweating for first 3-4 days
Saunas, steam, swimming, jacuzzi, and hot showers until scabs fall off
Laser/Chemical treatments, dermabrasion
Retin-A or Glycolic Acids
Sleeping on your face
Sunbathing and tanning
Any makeup on and around brow area
Rubbing, picking or itching treatment area
Day 1 After Treatment:
Gently dab the lymph fluid every 20-30 minutes until oozing has stopped. Removing this fluid prevents hard scabs from forming.
Days 2-10:
Starting on Day 2 and for the first 7 days after your appointment gently wash the brow area with PMU aftercare or gentle foaming cleanser/baby soap morning and night. Apply pressure in swiping movements using your fingers for 10 seconds and then ensure all soap has been rinsed off. Ensure that your products have no acids or exfoliants in them.
After each wash and through the day keep brows moisturized with rice grain size of aftercare gel or ointment given at appointment. At no point should your brows feel too dry or be heavily covered in product- they need to be able to breathe.
Over first 3 days small scabs will form and starting at days 4-5 they will start coming off in small amounts leaving brows looking patchy. If any itching occurs continue applying and patting on small amounts of ointment or gel. DO NOT pick off these scabs, they must fall off on their own.
After Day 7 only apply moisturizer after washing
Days 10-14:
The scabs have completely fallen off and you may think your brows are too light and wondering where your brows went. This is normal and healing is almost complete. You must stop using ointment after all scabs have fallen off
Days 14-21:
Brow color is settling in and you may still have some patches. Your brows are completely healed by day 21 and any imperfections should be noted down to address at your touch up appointment.
Day 30:
Time to schedule your touch up if you haven't already! At least 2 sessions are needed to achieve the best results that will last 1-3 years.
By following these aftercare guidelines, you'll be well on your way to enjoying your beautifully enhanced lips and eyebrows for years to come. Remember, each individual's healing process may vary, so it's always best to consult with your technician if you have any concerns. With the right care, your investment in permanent makeup will continue to enhance your natural beauty for the long haul.
